Michael Walsh is the Managing Director of Walsh Design Group (WDG). Michael founded the civil and structural engineering consultancy in 1995 in Kinsale, Co. Cork, after eight years of professional experience in the UK and Australia in both site-based and design office roles.

Over the past 30 years, Michael has led WDG in the delivery of comprehensive civil and structural engineering design and project management services for private developers and local authorities throughout the Munster region and nationally. He has overseen engineering design for residential developments ranging from 30 to 750 housing units, as well as the civil and structural design of major industrial facilities and a wide range of hotel projects. Notable examples include the Moran’s Red Cow Hotel, Vienna Woods Hotel, Radisson Blu Little Island, Actons Hotel Kinsale, and Inchydoney Lodge & Spa.

Between 2010 and 2018, Michael worked extensively with financial institutions, receivers, and NAMA, managing the completion and remediation of distressed assets, including unfinished and “ghost” housing estates. In response to continued growth and market demand, WDG relocated its headquarters to Cork City in 2017 and expanded further with the opening of a Dublin office in 2023.

Michael also has significant expertise in the preparation of end-of-lease dilapidation reports and in negotiating settlements on behalf of both landlords and tenants. He regularly acts as Design Certifier and Assigned Certifier under the BC(A)R regulations and provides project coordination and Employer’s Representative services on housing projects for local authorities.

With 20 years’ experience in the construction industry, Jamie has developed core competencies in Structural Design, Fire Safety and Building Control Compliance. As a Director at Walsh Design Group, his primary responsibility is delivery of projects from the detailed design stage, through the construction stage and to project handover. Jamie oversees the design and construction of innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable engineering solutions that meet regulatory standards while optimising efficiency and safety on-site. He has extensive experience in the roles of Design Team Leader and Assigned Certifier on many projects including those delivered through the Capital Works Management Framework.

Committed to continuous professional development, Jamie qualified from Cork Institute of Technology in 2004 with an honours degree in Structural Engineering having progressed from the National Diploma in Civil Engineering course. He has secured more recent qualifications in Passiv House Design and Building Control Management. He is a member of the Institute of Structural Engineers, the Institute of Fire Engineers and is a Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland for over 10 years. Jamie has recently been appointed to the panel of Building Control Specialists with An Coimisiún Pleanála, where his primary role is to advise the board in relation to compliance with Part B (Fire Safety) of the Building Regulations.
