“From Ghost Estate to Dream Homes”

“From Ghost Estate to Dream Homes” is an apt description for The Tannery in Bandon.
Walsh Design Group acted as the lead design consultant on the project that saw a former Ghost Estate evolve to become the dream homes of 24 Cork families.
Construction work first started on the Tannery in 2007, but due the property crash the partially completed development was boarded up and the development remained unfinished, lying idle for over six years.
The homes at the Tannery in Bandon are a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses with south and west facing gardens. This development forms part of a larger national project that aims to provide 2,000 homes to people on social housing lists by the end of 2015, operated by NAMA and NABCO (the national co-operative housing provider).
Walsh Design Group worked closely with cost consultants AECOM and contractors Murnane and O’Shea to develop an economically viable project. We also engaged with the Local Authority on outstanding public realm works and Receivers Deloitte (for NAMA) and NALM legal advisors to resolve underlying mapping issues as they arose.
Mike Walsh is delighted that Walsh Design Group was instrumental in the success of this project and has noted that his firm is also involved with various receivers on a number of similar projects in the Munster region.
