Walsh Design Group were in attendance at the recent Engineers Ireland Graduate Awards. This event, one of the highlights of the Cork region calendar, combines the Presidential Address and Conferring of Registered Professional Titles with the Cork region Graduate Awards, offering members and guests an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Cork engineers. The event was held at Rochestown Park Hotel on Tuesday, 16th April 2019.
Daniel Lawton of Walsh Design Group, who recently graduated from University College Cork with a First-Class Honours Bachelors of Engineering degree was presented with a “Best Graduate Award” on the night for outstanding academic results in the Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering degree programme. Daniel was joined by a number of other graduates from both UCC and CIT who also achieved high academic results.
The awards were followed by the Presidential Address “A Blueprint for Housing – Plans for Growth” by Peter Quinn, President of Engineers Ireland, where he discussed the current housing crisis in Ireland, focusing on the principal contributing factors, the key stakeholders and the role that engineers can play in alleviating the problem. Geographic factors, infrastructure requirements and predicted population growth were also explored in this most topical of presentations. The evening concluded with a reception where members and guests had the opportunity to network and meet with the President.
